Marching Band Uniform Care
Performance Shirt Care
Our performance shirts are machine washable and the students may take them home after each use, wash, and return them. The washing instructions must be followed so the shirts will last for several seasons.
They may take the shirt immediately after the performance. It must be returned to the garment bag within 1-2 school days.
Washing Instructions
Machine Wash Cold. The gentle/delicate cycle is preferred.
Do not wash it inside out to avoid the shoulder pads getting caught or torn off.
Avoid washing with other garments that have velcro, straps, buttons, or anything that may cause snags on the performance shirt.
Do not use bleach.
Tumble Dry on Low (or hang dry). Be sure the shoulder pads dry thoroughly!
Do not iron.
Return the shirt to the garment bag within 1-2 school days. If the shirt is taken home after a Friday football game or Saturday competition, it needs to be back in the student’s garment bag (hung up properly) on Monday.
Uniform Storage
Uniform Bag Instructions
Fold pants along the pleats/creases.
Place performance shirt on the hanger. Make sure the hanger is facing you with the hook coming from the left (open space on the right).
Place uniform on the correct rack, sorted A-Z. Look where the front and back of the rack is.
Competitions: Before Section leaders load uniforms on the truck, make sure your pants and performance shirt are hung evenly on the hangar so they don’t fall off during the drive
Headwear Info
The Apollo is a unique mark of the uniform and must be treated as such
No talking in Apollo’s…the only exception to this rule is Full Retreat at the BOA Regionals
The Apollo must sit correctly AND low enough on your head…the gap between your nose and the visor should be 1-2 fingers
When handling the plume, DO NOT hold it by the feathers. Only grab it by the pin at the bottom when taking it out/putting it in
Other Reminders
Jewelry should be simple/discreet.
No bracelets, smart watches, etc. during competition performances.
When wearing Apollos: long hair must be worn in a high bun to fit over the headband. Use hair pins, spray, and gel as needed.
Practice proper hygiene (applying deodorant, etc.) to reduce odor in the garment bags and in the bandroom.
