Marching Band Uniform Care

Uniform Storage

  1. Fold pants along the pleats/creases.

  2. Place performance shirt on the hanger. Make sure the hanger is facing you with the hook coming from the left (open space on the right). Hang your uniform evenly, so it doesn’t fall of during the truck’s drive!

  3. Place uniform on the correct rack, sorted A-Z. Look where the front and back of the rack is.

  4. Place your uniform on the CORRECT rack in ALPHABETICAL order!
ex. name: Doc Buchanan - place uniform on A-G Rack, sorted alphabetically amongst the “B” last name uniforms.

Headwear Info

  1. The Apollo is a unique mark of the uniform and must be treated as such

  2. No talking in Apollo’s…the only exception to this rule is Full Retreat at the BOA Regionals

  3. The Apollo must sit correctly AND low enough on your head…the gap between your nose and the visor should be 1-2 fingers

  4. When handling the plume, DO NOT hold it by the feathers. Only grab it by the pin at the bottom when taking it out/putting it in

  5. Make sure the apollo wrap velcros are fastened correctly, make sure the bottom of the “chevron” cut-out lines up with the middle of the apollo ring

Other Reminders

  1. Jewelry should be simple/discreet.

  2. No bracelets, smart watches, etc. during competition performances.

  3. When wearing Apollos: long hair must be worn in a high bun to fit over the headband. Use hair pins, spray, and gel as needed.

  4. Practice proper hygiene (applying deodorant, etc.) to reduce odor in the garment bags and in the bandroom.

Performance Shirt Care

Our performance shirts are machine washable and the students may take them home after each use, wash, and return them. The washing instructions must be followed so the shirts will last for several seasons.

They may take the shirt immediately after the performance. It must be returned to the garment bag within 1-2 school days.

Washing Instructions

  1. Machine Wash Cold. The gentle/delicate cycle is preferred.

  2. Do not wash it inside out to avoid the shoulder pads getting caught or torn off.

  3. Avoid washing with other garments that have velcro, straps, buttons, or anything that may cause snags on the performance shirt.

  4. Do not use bleach.

  5. Tumble Dry on Low (or hang dry). Be sure the shoulder pads dry thoroughly!

  6. Do not iron.

  7. Return the shirt to the garment bag within 1-2 school days. If the shirt is taken home after a Friday football game or Saturday competition, it needs to be back in the student’s garment bag (hung up properly) on Monday.
